No, Gravity Isn't Disappearing For Seven Seconds On August 12th

The internet remains undefeated in helping ridiculous ideas spread. NASA has debunked a viral rumor claiming Earth will lose gravity for seven seconds on August 12th. The hoax, which spread on social media starting in late December, claimed a secret NASA document called "Project Anchor" predicted the event would be caused by two colliding gravitational waves from black holes.

NASA pointed out that Earth's gravity is determined by its mass, and the only way to lose gravity would be to lose mass. There is no evidence that the so-called project exists, and the only notable event on August 12th will be a total solar eclipse visible from parts of Greenland, Iceland, and Europe.
