With Easter coming up on Sunday, kids across the country will be getting into the holiday spirit with egg hunts and enjoying the treats left in their basket by the Easter Bunny. But it turns out, a lot of folks are skipping one of the most popular Easter traditions — dyeing eggs — this year.
According to a new survey from WalletHub, 47% of Americans are opting out of egg dyeing because of the high price of eggs. But that doesn’t mean the kids can’t still have fun! As we recently told you, there are some good alternatives to color or decorate for Easter, including marshmallows, plastic or wooden craft eggs, and even small potatoes.
Swapping out the classic egg dyeing isn’t the only way the economy is affecting our holiday celebrations this year. The Easter Survey also finds:
- Some Americans are spending less in general, including two in five who say tariffs will impact their Easter budget.
- Just over half (52%) say they don’t even have a budget this Easter.
- Nearly half expect inflation to affect their Easter spending this year.
- People are nervous, as 41% admit they don’t feel confident about their finances right now.
- While baskets filled with chocolate and candy are tasty, 41% of Americans wish the Easter Bunny handed out money like the Tooth Fairy.
