President Donald Trump announced that Mexico "will not be required to pay tariffs on anything that falls under the USMC Agreement" in a post shared on his Truth Social account Thursday (March 6).

"After speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement," Trump wrote. "This Agreement is until April 2nd. I did this as an accommodation, and out of respect for, President Sheinbaum. Our relationship has been a very good one, and we are working hard, together, on the Border, both in terms of stopping Illegal Aliens from entering the United States and, likewise, stopping Fentanyl. Thank you to President Sheinbaum for your hard work and cooperation!"

Trump is also reportedly expected to pull back his tariffs on Mexico, one of his top officials told the Guardian on Thursday. The decision comes after the president had already softened his stance on Canada and Mexico tariffs, granting carmakers a one-month reprieve after they warned of potential widespread disruption caused by the policies.

Last month, Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced plans to retaliate to Trump's imposed 25% tariff on the two countries neighboring the United States' northern and southern borders. Trump has publicly claimed that his proposed tariffs would combat the growing number of drugs being into U.S.
