An eight-year-old girl in China recently got lost on her way home after leaving a dance class. She became anxious after being separated from her grandfather, but then she spotted an ATM kiosk, pressed an emergency button and was connected to the bank's call center.
The girl informed a Quzhou Rural Commercial Bank employee that she was lost and didn’t know her family’s phone numbers. The employee stayed on the line to comfort her while contacting the local police. Officers quickly arrived at the scene to help the girl and safely escorted her back home to her family.
The girl’s mother is being credited with the positive outcome for having taught her daughter about the emergency call buttons on ATMs and instructing her to use the button if she ever needed help. Reports from local news outlets note that many ATMs in the region are equipped with two emergency buttons—one for making emergency calls and the other for sounding an alarm.
