The Roanoke City School Board decided Monday to rename Stonewall Jackson Middle School in a 6 to 1 vote. The school's name is being changed due its ties to a Confederate General.

According  to the superintendent, estimates to change the name include $35,000 to  $50,000 for uniforms, $100,000 for the gym floor, and $20,000 for signs  and installation.

The board voted to rename the school, named for a Confederate General, to 20th century Roanoke Railroad executive John P. Fishwick Middle School. The vote was 5 to 2.
